Dr. Sei Iwai is a renowned cardiac electrophysiologist with clinical expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias. He has vast experience in catheter ablation of arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, including via the use of 3-dimensional mapping systems, percutaneous circulatory support devices, robotic catheter manipulation, and epicardial access. In addition, he performs both implantations and laser extractions of cardiac pacemakers, implantable defibrillators (ICDs), and cardiac resynchronization therapy (“biventricular”) devices.

He has lectured throughout the United States as well as in Europe on various topics related to cardiac electrophysiology. Dr. Iwai has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles in premier journals such as Circulation, Journal of the American College of Cardiology, The American Journal of Physiology, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, as well as several book chapters on topics such as atrial fibrillation, atrial tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, sudden cardiac death, and syncope.

Prior to coming to Westchester Medical Center, Dr. Iwai served as an electrophysiology faculty member at the New York Presbyterian Hospital—Cornell in Manhattan for eight years, where he was also Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program. Subsequently, he served as the Director of the Complex Arrhythmia Ablation Program at Stony Brook University Medical Center on Long Island for over three years, as well as Director of the Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program.

Dr. Iwai received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College before getting his medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons. He then did his residency in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, followed by fellowships in both cardiovascular disease and cardiac electrophysiology at New York Hospital—Cornell. He is board-certified in cardiac electrophysiology as well as cardiology. Dr. Iwai has been named a “Top Doctor” by US News and World Report and Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.
