Dr. Kai received his medical degree from Tokyo Jikei University in Japan. Following the completion of his residency training in cardiovascular surgery at Kyoto University, Dr. Kai moved to United states in 2007. Dr. Kai completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at New York University Medical Center. In addition, Dr. Kai completed an advanced fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University, where he underwent special training in heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support device (LVAD, ECMO) implantation. Dr. Kai joined in cardiothoracic surgery at Westchester Medical Center in 2011. Dr. Kai serves as the Director of Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support (LVAD, ECMO) program.

Dr. Kai is very active in research as well. He is a primary investigator of the multiple clinical trials for innovative surgical treatment for heart failure. His extensive research work was published in the numerous peer review journals.
