Language(s): French, Italian, Spanish
Division: Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery
Board Certification: Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Congenital Heart Surgery

Dr. Nguyen, a national leader in pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, performs the most complex pediatric procedures with one of the lowest mortality rates in the state of New York. He has pioneered an approach to open heart surgery in infants and children using a transverse axillary incision. This leaves an almost invisible scar. Dr. Nguyen’s fast-tracking protocols result in many patients leaving the hospital within three days of their heart surgery.

Dr. Nguyen’s extensive credentials include serving as a lead investigator for numerous research studies; author of several peer-reviewed articles; guest speaker at national and international meeting presentations and invited lectures; and roles as guest reviewer. His commitment to global pediatric health has inspired several surgical missions abroad, where he has trained surgeons and performed advanced procedures on infants and children in their home countries.

Dr. Nguyen received his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine. He completed his residency in cardiothoracic surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and followed that with a fellowship in pediatric cardiac surgery at the prestigious Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital in London, one of the world’s foremost heart centers for children. He has held attending roles at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, NJ, for 20 years, and Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital for nearly 12 years.
