Cardiac Genetic Testing

At Westchester Heart and Vascular we offer an array of cardiac genetic testing for various genetic cardiac conditions. We are the only location in the region to offer this testing. All genetic tests are performed by a simple blood test.

The most common cardiac genetic conditions that we test for include:

Cardiac Channelopathies: Conditions that affect the electrical system of the heart. Certain Irregular cardiac rhythms can be detected through genetic testing. The most common of these include Long Qt Syndrome, Brugadas Syndrome and Catecholamine Induce Ventricular Tachycardia. These abnormalities are sometimes detected on an EKG or through taking a thorough patient and family history.

Cardiac Cardiomyopathies: Conditions that affect the muscle of the heart. Certain abnormalities that affect the make up and function of the cardiac muscle cells can be detected through Genetic testing. The most common of these include Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. These abnormalities are often detected by physical exam, by having an echo, and by taking a thorough patient and family history.
