Resident Life

Living Arrangements

Some residents live in New York City (benefiting from a “reverse commute”), but the majority choose a more suburban home life in Westchester County. Limited hospital housing for the initial year of training is available by application.

The City of White Plains offers a rent reduction program to Residents: https://www.cityofwhiteplains.com/719/Affordable-Rental-Housing-Program

Residents with dependents may qualify for Section 8 housing in nearby municipalities.

For residents with young children, the Child Care Council of Westchester is an excellent resource. This not-for-profit organization champions the healthy development of children, families and our community by promoting quality early care and education.  Their services include free personalized childcare search support and assistance in applying for financial aid programs, including the Westchester Child Care Scholarship Program. https://www.childcarewestchester.org/

Mentoring

All residents are paired with a faculty mentor.

Fundamental Clinical Skills in Medical Education (PGY-1) residents are paired with both a senior resident buddy and a faculty member to assist in acclimating to the program and to develop professional relationships. The Clinical Anesthesia residents choose their own mentors, who foster clinical growth and offer life and career advice.
